Social Work Professor Ruth White gave presentations at three international conferences held in the United Kingdom this past summer. At the Global Conference: Probing the Boundaries of Madness held at Oxford’s Mansfield College, she presented “Walking the line: Madness as identity, illness and inspiration. “At the International Conference on Learning at the University of London, she gave a paper on “Service learning as pedagogy and practice: Challenges and opportunities.”  She also presented “The Dream Act and the politics of undocumented immigration in the USA: Rights, Justice, Activism” at the Sociology and Contemporary Global Social Activism Conference held at St. Mary’s University, London.

White, who received her PhD and MPH from the University of California, Berkeley, and her MSW from McGill University, has been on the faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences since 2002. Her research focuses on social determinants of health and well-being, HIV/AIDS, community development, international social work, and maternal and child health. Her recent scholarship includes “Global Case Studies in Maternal and Child Health," due out this December. She also blogs for “Psychology Today.”
