The first issue of the American Journal of Arts Management has just been published. Professor Kevin Maifeld, director of the MFA in Arts Leadership, edits the journal along with Professor David Edelman, Shenandoah Conservatory. The free online journal bridges the scholarly divide between academia and professional nonprofit arts organizations.
The initial issue features articles on the impact of the 2007 recession on arts funding, delivering performing arts online, and a case study on the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.
“This is a peer-reviewed journal,” said Maifeld. “Our editorial board is comprised of distinguished members of leading arts organizations and academic institutions.”
Maifeld holds an MFA degree in Arts Management from the University of Alabama and has extensive experience in nonprofit arts management. He is the founding director of the MFA in Arts Leadership and Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences.
The MFA program, which accepted its first students in 2007, was granted full membership in the Association of Arts Administration Educators in 2010. The MFA is one of seven advanced degree programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, the largest college in Seattle University.
