Social Work Professor Ruth White leads off an open forum of poetry readings on March 14 at 7 p.m. at Barnes and Noble, 600 Pine Street. The event celebrates Women’s History Month.

“I’ll be reading ‘The Nine,’ a poem about my grandmother and her eight daughters who informed my womanhood by being feminists who were just doing woman the only way they were taught how,” White said.

White, who received her PhD and MPH from the University of California, Berkeley, and her MSW from McGill University, has been on the faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences since 2002. Her research focuses on social determinants of health and well-being, HIV/AIDS, community development, international social work, and maternal and child health. She also blogs for “Psychology Today.”

The College of Arts and Sciences, the largest college in Seattle University, offers 42 undergraduate majors, 37 minors, and 7 master’s degrees.
