Professor Jaime Perozo, founder of the Latin American Studies Program in Puebla, México, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the program with colleagues, host families from Mexico, and friends. Perozo teaches in both Latin American Studies and the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures.
Perozo was honored for his contributions to the field and his steadfast leadership in the education abroad program. For more than 16 years, he has fostered a partnership with the Universidad Iberoamericana and a friendship with the people and community in Puebla, Mexico.
“Since the Latin American Studies program started, Jaime has devoted his heart and soul to inspiring students to explore the world by starting with Mexico’s amazing beauty and complexity,” said Professor Diana Luna. “He has challenged them to step out of their comfort zone to become better persons.”
Latin American Studies students acquire an in-depth, interdisciplinary understanding of the culture, economics, environment, history, literature, and politics of Latin America. They also have the opportunity to study the experiences of Latinas and Latinos living in the United States. Faculty and courses from Environmental Studies, History, International Studies, Modern Languages, Political Science, Sociology, Theology & Religious Studies, and Women Studies contribute to the program.
