String Performance student Antonio Dowling, violinist, was chosen as a finalist in the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Young Artists Competition. Dowling, a junior, has been studying violin with Professor Quinton Morris since his freshman year in the College of Arts and Sciences. Morris directs the Chamber and Instrumental Music program in the Fine Arts Department.

“Dowling will be competing against students from top conservatories and music schools, including Oberlin, Eastman, and Curtis,” Morris said. “He has exceptional talent and will represent our program very well.”

Dowling will perform Mozart’s Fifth Concerto at the competition, set for January 5 in Coeur d’Alene. Winners are invited to perform with the symphony in the spring.

The College of Arts and Sciences, the largest college in Seattle University, offers 42 undergraduate majors, 37 minors, and 7 master’s degrees. The Fine Arts Department offers a B.M. in String Performance.
