Amanda Manitach joins the Fine Arts Department as the new curator of the Hedreen Gallery in the Lee Center for the Arts. The new appointment reflects the evolution of the Hedreen Gallery’s contemporary art programming and the Department of Fine Arts’ commitment to new curatorial practices.
“Manitach’s curation will build on the interdisciplinary, liberal arts approach of Seattle University and expand on the innovative practices of preceding curators Jessica Powers and Whitney Ford-Terry,” said Fine Arts Department Chair Josef Venker, S.J.
Manitach’s current work is rooted in an exploration of gender, the abject, language, ritual, and the psychogeography of cities. Both her art practice and curatorial style reflect an interest in liturgical storytelling and transhistorical multidisciplinary narratives.
Manitach received a BA in Literature from Oral Roberts University in 2001. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at the Bellevue Arts Museum, Lawrimore Project, SOIL Gallery, SAM Rental Gallery, Roq la Rue, and Cullom Gallery, among others. She was recently shortlisted for the Stranger Genius Award in Visual Arts.
