Award-winning photographer, filmmaker, and author Joel Pickford explores the cultures and communities of Hmong living in California and in Laos on October 29.  In his presentation based on his book Soul Calling: A Photographic Journey Through the Hmong Diaspora, he offers a perspective into the world of a vibrant but little known culture. He portrays a people who have remained resilient through war, persecution, and adapting to new environments.

Soul Calling is the first photographic book on the Hmong culture ever published.

Pickford’s presentation, set for 6:30 p.m. on October 29 in Wyckoff Auditorium, is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by Asian Studies, International Studies, and the College of Arts and Sciences Events Committee.
