Biography

Karen Sharp is the Education Director at Seattle Children’s Theatre (SCT). She has led and coordinated arts education programs for 18 + years. Karen has taught hundreds of classes for students aged 3½ - 21 years old, and has trained classroom teachers how to integrate drama into core curriculum. In 1999 Karen joined the SCT staff as Education Outreach Coordinator, and then served as Drama School Director and now, since 2005, as Education Director. She oversees the Drama School and Education Outreach programs, spearheading the SCT education vision. Karen has been integral to transforming the way SCT teaches Creative Drama. Additionally she has been a guest lecturer on Arts Education and Creative Drama at University of Washington, Western Washington University and Pacific Lutheran University. She has been consulted by art schools and theater education departments from across the USA and has helped many of them to implement best practices in their programs. She has given presentations at national and local conferences, including Arts Time, AFTA, BTiC and One Theatre World. In addition Karen has led Education Director Phone Forums for TYA/USA. Currently Karen serves as Board Secretary of the Winifred Ward Scholarship Foundation and Vice-President of TYA/USA. Karen graduated from the acting program at Goodman/DePaul School of Drama.
