Dan D Shafer is a graphic designer and educator whose studio practice ranges from work for clients like UC Berkeley and the Kronos Quartet to self-initiated projects and hand-printed posters. He is most interested in exploring the nebulous territory that exists between a traditional understanding of "art" and "design," and how these forces intersect with people's everyday lives. He received a BA in graphic design and printmaking from Western Washington University and an MFA in design from California College of the Arts. He has worked in the Book Arts Program at Mills College in Oakland, CA and the Visual Communications Department at Las Positas College in Livermore, CA. He currently teaches at Seattle University and Cornish College of the Arts, and is on the board of the Seattle Center for Book Arts.
