Classics of World Cinema

Alumni Seminar Series - Spring 2010

worldfilm

This seminar marks the return to one of our most popular seminar topics of the past: great films.  With a new Film Studies major in its first year at Seattle University and a new partnership with the Seattle International Film Festival, there couldn't be a better time to bring back this exciting topic for our alumni and friends.  Prof. Richard Meyer, who has taught international films and the history of cinema for several years at Seattle University and who has been active in the creation of the new Film Studies Program at Seattle University, will present and discuss major films from several countries across the globe.  Other faculty members in the new Film Studies Program may also discuss film classics from Africa, China, Europe, and the United States.

Richard J. Meyer, has a PhD from New York University and has taught several courses in Film Studies at Seattle University the past several years.  Before that, he taught film and media studies at Arizona State University and at Ball State University in Indiana, and was a Fulbright professor in Italy and Fulbright scholar in Taiwan.  He has published widely in film and journalism periodicals, and his recent book on Chinese film was published in April 2009.  He has also served as a consultant for universities, UNESCO, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and has worked in all phases of film and educational television production.
