Professor Joshi received her M.F.A. in directing from the Yale School of Drama and B.A. in Theatre and Psychology from Bucknell University. She has been teaching at Seattle University since 2000 and directs one production annually for the Seattle University Fine Arts season. She has also taught at Hong Kong University, Hong Kong Academy of the Performing Arts and has directed at Cornish College for the Arts. As a director, Joshi’s work focuses on both classical and contemporary texts by playwrights ranging from Shakespeare to Caryl Churchill. A sample of her directing credits include; Life of Galileo by Bertolt Brecht (Strawberry Theatre Workshop); King John (upstart crow); Shelter by Neil Harris and Flickie Lapish (Not So Loud Theatre, Hong Kong); Fen by Caryl Churchill (New City Theater); Twelfth Night (Centerstage); and a reading of Malaya by Chay Yew (Seattle Repertory Theatre). Joshi was Interim Artistic director at Northwest Asian American Theatre (NWAAT) from 1998 – 1999 where she led the International Artists Program, a Ford Foundation funded program that supported multi-disciplinary collaborations between Asian American and Asian artists. She was a resident director at New City Theatre from 1996 -- 1997 under the sponsorship of a Princess Grace award. She is a co-founder of upstart crow a Seattle-based theatre company whose interest is in producing classical plays with all-female casts.
