I am trained as a socio-cultural anthropologist. My ethnographic research has focused upon Japan and the People’s Republic of China, where I have spent a combined total of over ten years studying and conducting fieldwork. I am proficient in both Japanese and Mandarin Chinese, and I use these languages in my research on Sino-Japanese relations and environmental issues in contemporary China.
