You can also make a gift to any school, program or other designation. Gifts designated to various campus priorities enable the deans and university leadership to address special funding needs.

Gifts of Securities: stocks, bonds and mutual funds

Making a stock gift is an easy and tax-wise way to invest in Seattle University. A gift of appreciated securities saves taxes twice. You may receive an income tax deduction for the full market value of the donated shares if you’ve held the securities for more than one year, and you may avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation.

For instructions on how to transfer stock to SU and a donor stock transmittal form please see the following document:

Gifts of real property

Gifts of real estate can be very advantageous to both you and the university. By contributing long term appreciated real estate, you are allowed an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the property substantiated by a qualified appraisal. In addition, capital gains taxes may be eliminated or greatly reduced by making a gift. Of course, the university benefits by selling the property and using the proceeds to improve the campus, assist faculty, or support scholarships for students.

It is also possible for you to use real estate to make a gift that pays an annuity or provides other income to you and/or another person.

Please contact Jane Orr, Senior Director of Planned Giving at orrj@seattleu.edu or (206) 296-6962, to begin a conversation about how your real estate can benefit you and Seattle University.
