Symetra is a financial services company in the life insurance industry, including select group health, retirement, life insurance, and employee benefits. Symetra's first day as an independent company was August 2, 2004, when Symetra was formed by acquiring a group of life insurance and investment companies from Safeco Corporation and became a publicly traded company in January 2010.

Job Description

Oversee the preparation and issuance of external filings (10-Qs and 10-Ks) and internal reports (quarterly PL analysis). During non-reporting times, the majorirty of my time is spent drafting and reviewing accounting policies and performing accounting research for ad hoc transactions.

Employment History

Started with Symetra in November 2006 as an Investment Accounting Analyst, before transferring to External Reporting in April of 2007. Before working at Symetra Financial, I was an auditor for Deloitte & Touche for 2+ years, primarily working on the Microsoft and Boeing engagements.

Education

Received my BA Business Administration, emphasis in Accounting, from Seattle University in 2003, and Masters of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) from the University of Washington in 2004.

When and where do you hold meetings with your students?

Am open to meeting either on campus, in Bellevue near my company's headquarters, or other Seattle/Bellevue locations. Weekday evenings are preferred.
