The Justice Education Forum is an annual program that gathers leaders from different sectors for in-depth discussion and exploration of current topics of social justice. Leaders come from such communities as business, health care, public service, church, labor, education and other sectors to learn and converse together, as well as to broaden their network of relationships. The topic for 2010-2011 is "The State of U.S. Public Education: Who is it Working For?"

The Seattle University Coalition for Education Equity (CEE) presents, Paramount Duty, a documentary film by Peter J. Vogt and Nick Hanauer. The film is an honest and compelling look at how the lack of support from our state impacts the lives and futures of our kids.
Following the one hour film, a panel discussion will be held with Angelique Davis (Seattle University faculty member in the Dept. of Political Science), Maggie Wilkens (League of Education Voters Youth Organizer), and Eric Liu (Author, Educator, and Civic Entrepreneur), who will discuss the film.
This event is also co-sponsored by Center for Service & Community Engagement, Academic Salons, Children's Literacy Project, Washington Educators for Social Justice, and the Pre-Law Club.

At a time when Washington State is eighth in the nation among states receiving immigrants and sixth in receiving refugees, exploring the narratives that are constructed around immigrant experiences is important. Dr. Sleeter, a lauded scholar in multicultural education who is a major influence in multicultural teaching and scholarship, turns her focus to the ways in which we construct such narratives.
