Calcutta Club - Volunteer in India
"Considerations for International Service/Volunteering"
Seattle University's mission often inspires students to independently pursue study and service opportunities in developing countries with organizations with which Seattle University has no prior or standing relationship and therefore no knowledge of their health and safety practice for students.
In selecting their destinations from the many worthy options, students are reminded that CSCE and EAO do not organize or endorse volunteer or study abroad experiences in countries where conditions are considered unsafe or unhealthy or for which:
- The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs has issued a Travel Warning, or www.state.gov/travel
- The World Health Organization www.who.int or U.S. Centers for Disease Control www.cdc.gov have issued a Travel Advisory, or
- The Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control has imposed Travel Restrictions.
Students need to check these lists and act accordingly. If consulted, CSCE and EAO will work with students to identify countries not on any of these alert lists. There are many programs which may allow them to meet their goals without unduly compromising their safety.
Academic program: see Approved Program CIEE (www.ciee.org).
