Academics:  The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies, founded in 1998, strives to educate the academic community about China. Immersion experiences with host students, language tutors, roommates, plus extensive educational travel to far corners of China give Beijing Center students an intimate and unparalleled experience with China. Credits: The Beijing Center offers nearly 75 courses each year across 13 different fields of study, all taught in English. Students will be able to fulfill core classes as well as major requirements. Students will be required to enroll in Chinese (Mandarin) language classes. Students must be enrolled in a full semester load (the equivalent of 22.5 quarter credits).

Housing: University-run residences, homestay available for advanced Chinese language speakers.

Program Cost Estimates: Students pay a specialized semester tuition rate ($15,000 based on 2012-13 rates).  Room and Board expenses of approximately $2,500 will be paid directly to The Beijing Center.  Round-trip airfare, medical insurance, and personal expenses are not included.

Eligibility:    

  • Good academic and conduct standing.
  • A 2.8 GPA will be considered, preference given to students with a (cumulative) 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Chinese language skills are not required but all students are required to enroll in Chinese language classes.

Application Deadline: Applicants must complete the online SU Education Abroad Global Application by February 15, 2013. Please read the directions carefully and make certain to submit all supporting documentation with your application.
