Chinese Language Studies in Suzhou

Academics: Founded in 1900, Suzhou University is one of the oldest Christian universities in China. Suzhou University is one of the 100 key universities selected by China’s Ministry of Education. The School of Overseas Education has more than twenty years of experience in training international students with its BA program of Chinese language and a variety of culture training programs.
Credits: Earn up to 15 college credits for a Chinese minor at Seattle University while enjoying the ancient cultural paradise of Suzhou, China! Signing up for the Chinese Study Abroad Program means that the participants hold the ticket to the "Paradise on Earth" -- the term used by Chinese to praise the leisurely living environment of the ancient city of Suzhou, which is an ideal site for cultural studies on traditional Chinese thinking as reflected in arts, landscaping and gardens.
Suzhou, nevertheless, is competitive by any standard as a city that provides ample opportunities for the participants to explore modern China through the Suzhou Industrial Park and Suzhou New Economic District. During their stay in Suzhou, the participants will also have easy access to world-renowned cities such as Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuxi and Hangzhou, each being within a few hours or less from Suzhou by train.
Housing: Students will be housed in a single or double-occupancy room in arranged on-campus accommodation (with TV, internet connection, air-conditioning, refrigerator, private bath). Dining on and off campus is convenient and consisting of various types of food.
Program Cost Estimates: Students pay a program fee of approximately $3,100 which includes tuition, course materials, ground transportation to and from Suzhou, and educational and cultural tours. Room and Board expenses are an additional cost of approximately $1,300. Round-trip airfare, medical insurance, and personal expenses are not included.
Eligibility:
- Good academic and conduct standing
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and Chinese GPA
- 2 years of Chinese language instruction or see the program liaison
