SU Sponsored Programs

Quarter(s), semester and year programs abroad and short-term courses abroad are organized or operated directly by Seattle University. Students are enrolled at SU and SU scholarships apply (except where noted in program descriptions).

Eligibility for SU programs includes:

• Good academic and conduct standing.
• Appropriate academic preparation as defined by the Department sponsoring the program.
• Skill and willingness to engage in demanding cross-cultural academic projects.
• Flexibility, confidence and fortitude in ambiguous independent situations.
• Aptitude to rely on a small, close-knit community of program participants for personal support.
• Ability to live and study effectively without requiring regular access to specialized medical care, counseling or other psychological support services.

SU Approved Programs

Seattle University takes care to partner with high quality, reputable programs that compliment the University’s curriculum, goals for cultural immersion and standards for health and safety. Typically, approved programs have been visited either by a faculty member or a member of the Education Abroad Office. The Education Abroad Office monitors programs through returnee evaluations and close communication with programs. Education Abroad Advisors generally have in-depth knowledge of approved programs.

Participants are enrolled at SU during participation and credits earned are considered "in residence." State and Federal aid is portable, but SU scholarships will not apply. Students pay fees directly to the program or university partner, not to Seattle University.

Non-SU Programs

Non-Seattle University programs are not vetted in the manner of approved SU programs. Seattle University has no standing relationship with these. The Education Abroad Advisors can verify the transferability of academic credit toward the SU degree, however, they do not have in-depth knowledge of the quality, safety or services provided on Non-SU programs. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to obtain full and accurate program information directly from the program sponsor. Students interested in exploring Non-Seattle University program options are encouraged to begin their work investigating alternative programs early.

Participants on Non-SU programs must file required forms. Participants are not enrolled at SU during participation. SU scholarships will not apply. Eligible coursework applies toward the SU degree as transfer credit.
