Some 800 guests—including 350 students who were admitted to SU for fall 2011—tour campus as part of the Accepted Student Open House. Attendees at the recent open house learned not only about the campus as a whole but also about the different academic departments, financial aid, residence halls and more.

Eddie Lincoln, Bailey Gatzert School Success Coordinator, shares how his work with the Seattle University Youth Initiative is inspired by our Jesuit Catholic mission at this year's Mission Day. The theme of Mission Day, an annual springtime gathering of faculty and staff around the Jesuit Catholic mission, was "A Fire that Kindles Other Fires: Igniting Wonder, Pursuing Justice."

Dressed for success and with resumes in hand, students, alumni and
community members packed Campion Ballroom for Seattle University Career
Services' annual Career Expo. Nearly 500 attendees had the chance to
learn more about job and internship opportunities from the 63 companies
represented at the expo, including Boeing, PACCAR, Starbucks and
Amazon.com.

Record Setting

Emily Walters set school records in the long jump, the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles during the recent Oregon-Washington Duel in Spokane. Walters has been one of the track and field team's top performers throughout the year and will compete for conference titles at the Great West Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May.

Thirst for Learning

Seattle University students and faculty,
led by Associate Professor Phil Thompson (chair, civil and environmental
engineering), welcomed students from the East Madison YMCA Black
Achievers program to explore issues around safe water treatment in
developing countries. The students assisted in building water treatment
systems that will be shipped to medical clinics in Haiti.

Alumna of the Year

President Stephen Sundborg, S.J., stands with Alumna of the Year Betty Petri Hedreen, '57, and Alumni Board of Governors President Sean Henderson at the 2011 Alumni Awards Celebration. A leader in the arts and cultural affairs, Hedreen and her husband, Dick, have contributed much to the art collection at SU and in the efforts to build the Lee Center for the Arts.

Seattle University's softball team, including junior Hannah Klein (pictured), opens up conference play for the 2011 season with a four-game series against Weber State. The team plays Weber April 9-10 at SU's Logan Field.
