Charles Tung presents internationally

Charles Tung, associate professor of English, presented a paper at a symposium, titled "Modernist Inhumanism," at the University of Notre Dame London Centre. The paper, "Posthuman Time Machines," examined modernism's posthumanist response to modernity's short durée and the aesthetics of the sensuous moment.

Tung also organized a panel on "Futures After Modernism" at the Modernist Studies Association conference at the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK, and presented a paper, titled "Modernist Scale and Faculties of Foresight," which connected modernism's technique of temporal scaling to the invention of big telescopes and the genealogy of Strategic Foresight Studies.

After the conference, Tung traveled visited St. Cross College at the University of Oxford, where he earned his M.Phil. in modern literature, to explore the possibility of a study abroad course for Seattle University students.
