Sven Arvidson publishes in Human Studies
Sven Arvidson, director of Liberal Studies, published “Restructuring Attentionality and Intentionality” in Human Studies, a longstanding, peer-reviewed print journal for philosophy and the social sciences. The article shows how phenomenology and experimental psychology have been largely interested in the same thing when it comes to attention.
What psychology views as an attentionality-intentionality phenomenon, phenomenology views as an intentionality-attentionality phenomenon. When this phenomenon is seen as a “restructuring,” a kind of attentional transformation between focus and context, both disciplinary approaches to attention can benefit. The paper uses interdisciplinary processes to find common ground and integration between these two areas of knowledge.
