Partner Schools
With the implementation of the Seattle University Youth Initiative, we focus our resources on our Pipeline Schools: Bailey Gatzert elementary School, Washington Middle School and Garfield High School. Based upon needs and availability, we also place volunteers at Thurgood Marshall Elementary, Leschi Elementary School. Among the public school population we serve, over 60% receive free or reduced cost meals, do not live with both parents, and do not meet the state academic standards. Our partner schools also have large populations of English as a Second Language (ESL) students and students qualifying for special education. Although many schools in the area have high-needs populations, we have intentionally limited the number of schools we serve in order to maintain effective communication and supervision of tutors. In this way, we have been able to build strong working relationships with each school’s administration and teachers. We also recognize the need to serve students in our Seattle U neighborhood. All of our partner schools are within walking distance or a short bus ride away from campus.
