ACE ( Alliance for Catholic Education)
Two-year service program. Serve as a full-time teacher in under-resourced Catholic schools across the southern United States. Study to receive a Masters in Education from Notre Dame. Community living and spirituality components.
AmeriCorps
National network of service programs. Placements at more than 2,100 nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based organizations. Focus areas: Education, Human Needs, Environmental Initiatives, Public Safety, Homeland Security. Programs include: AmeriCorps*State and National, AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers In Service to America), and AmeriCorps*NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps). Earn an Education Award to help cover costs of higher education.
Brethren Volunteer Service
A program of the Church of the Brethren. Domestic and international placements. Serving basic human needs, working for peace, advocating justice, maintaining the integrity of creation.
Cabrini Mission Corps
Lay mission program sponsored by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. Respond to the church's universal call to holiness through service to others by serving for one to two years in the United States or overseas. Ministries include education, health care, child care, pastoral ministry, and social services. This program offers community, spirituality, and simple living components.
Catholic Charities Volunteer Corps
Men and women age 21-35. One year commitment to a Catholic Charities site in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. Community, service, spirituality, and simple living components.
Catholic Worker (The Gift of Tears Catholic Worker)
An inclusive faith-based community located on three farms in West Virginia’s Appalachia mountainside. The farms are maintained by a small group of core community members who engage in simple community living, shared spiritual reflection and dialogue, and outreach with the local community. Individuals and groups are invited for short-term stays.
Cristo Rey Jesuit Alumni Volunteer Program
Two-year opportunity serving at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago. Your gifts will be matched to support the needs of the school; serve in the classroom, campus ministry, coaching, etc. Community living, spirituality, and simple living components.
City Year
National Youth Corps members work with the spirit of idealism, the discipline of hard work, the purpose of shared goals and the pride of representing their generation. Placements focused on the education and development of youth, serving as mentors for children in partnership with public schools and organizing and running after-school programs and curricula on important social issues including domestic violence prevention, AIDS awareness, and diversity.
Covenant House, New York and Vancouver, BC
Assist homeless youth in one of Covenant House’s crisis shelters in New York or Vancouver, British Columbia. Community, spirituality, simple living components. AmeriCorps Education Award offered.
Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps
Ten- to twelve-month site placements working with a team to build decent, affordable housing for and with low-income families. No previous construction experience required. Living allowance and AmeriCorps Education Award offered.
Inner City Teaching Corps
The Volunteer Teaching Corps, a program of the Inner-City Teaching Corps, is a two-year, post-grad service program training outstanding recent college graduates to be full-time teachers in inner-city Chicago parochial schools. ALL MAJORS are eligible to apply for both elementary and high school positions. Volunteers live in co-ed, faith-based communities of 7-10 in residences on Chicago's South and West sides. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a career in education, or to give back to the community before going on to graduate school or another professional field.
JVC (Jesuit Volunteer Corps)
One-year commitment to volunteering in a variety of programs throughout the U.S. The JVC are committed to the four values of social justice, spirituality, simple lifestyle and community. Opportunities include working with homeless, unemployed, refugees, people with AIDS, the elderly, street youth, abused women and children, the mentally ill and the developmentally disabled. Positions are available in teaching, nursing and community service.
LANCE (Lasallian Association of New Catholic Educators)
Two year program teaching in Catholic schools in inner-city Memphis, TN. Earn a Masters degree at Christian Brothers University in Memphis. Community living and spirituality components.
Lutheran Volunteer Corps
Placements include schools, environmental organizations, shelters, programs for women and youth, medical and legal clinics, refugee services, public policy organizations, community organizers, senior service providers, food banks, and general social service agencies. Social justice, intentional community, simple living components.
Marianist Voluntary Service
Lay volunteers live and serve among disadvantaged people in urban settings of Ohio and New York. Support established human service agencies in professional areas that can be connected to almost any academic area. Simplicity, community living, and spirituality components. AmeriCorps Education Award offered.
Mercy Volunteer Corps
A lay volunteer program sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. Men and women provide full time service to the poor, sick, and uneducated while living simply in community and growing in their spirituality. Mercy Volunteer Corps offers domestic and international placements.
PACE (Pacific Alliance for Catholic Education)
Two-year faith-based, service-learning program offered as a post-graduate opportunity to recent Catholic graduates who find themselves called to teaching. Includes a MA in Education at the U. of Portland. Community and spirituality components.
Providence Alliance for Catholic Teachers (PACT)
Two year commitment serving as a teacher in a Catholic school in New England. Work towards earning a Master of Education Degree from Providence College and receive teacher certification in Rhode Island.
REACH Youth Ministry
One year commitment serving on a traveling Catholic retreat team that shares the Gospel message with youth (elementary through college age) through talks, games, dramas, activities, reflections, small group sharing, personal testimonies, and prayer. REACH team members are trained in Catholic doctrine, Catholic spirituality, community living, and retreat ministry skills.
RESPONSE-ABILITY
Volunteers work full-time in urban schools to fill need for enthusiastic and energetic teachers in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC. Placements also available in the Dominican Republic. Community living and spirituality components. Graduate level coursework is available towards a teaching certificate and Master’s Degree.
Student Conservation Association
Conservation Corps members offer 3-12 month commitment engaging in environmental education, youth leadership programs, conservation projects, trail construction and park restoration while living in community. Conservation Crews engage in one-month projects building trails, restoring habitats, helping protect wildlife, and learning outdoor leadership skills. Living allowance and AmeriCorps Education Award offered.
Teach for America
Two year commitment serving as full-time paid teacher in an urban or rural public school in low-income areas of the country. Members do not have teacher certification but must pass certain exams required by their district. Some graduate schools offer members to earn a Masters degree in Education. Become a lifelong advocate for social change and educational equality. AmeriCorps Education Award offered.
Trinity Mission Center
Men and women age 18 to 35 serve with other volunteers, lay missionaries, priests, brothers, and sisters for a one week, one month, or one year commitment. Domestic and International mission placements serving people experiencing poverty and injustice.
Urban Catholic Teaching Corps
Two year commitment serving the needs of urban communities by teaching in an urban Catholic school in the Boston area. Community living component. Earn degree in education from Boston College’s Lynch Graduate School of Education.
VESS - Volunteers for Educational and Social Services
Program of the Catholic Bishops of Texas that welcomes people of all faith traditions. Trains and fosters young people as servant leaders to respond to the needs of under-resourced communities in Texas.
Vincentian Service Corps
Serve in Vincentian ministries, such as healthcare, social services, and many schools and educational programs to improve the lives of those in need. Placements in the Midwest and West Coast. Community, spirituality, and simple living components.
