2012 GLFS Cohort & Finalists

The Graduate Leadership Formation Specialization (GLFS) offers each cohort member a special opportunity to explore leadership issues, develop and hone leadership skills, and practice leadership behaviors in the year long program.  The program includes a leadership challenge which challenges MBA students to explore, process, demonstrate, and assimilate aspects of leadership theory and behavior. 

The 2012 Cohort is divided into 14 different teams with each member taking a leadership role on at least one of the committees.  The following are the cohort's committees:

Meet the 2012 Cohort

2012-Bio-Andrew-Front

 

Andrew Dul joined the GLFS cohort to enrich his leadership skills and to develop life long relationships with other leaders in the Seattle area.  Andrew is also a networking consultant at Cascadeo Corporation and has been involved in a number of Seattle based companies including Internap, Connexion by Boeing, and Perkins Coie. Andrew has also been involved with the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) contributing to the development of global IP number resource policy. Andrew holds a bachelors of science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Davis.

2012-Bio-Anne-Front 

 

Anne van Gessel joined GLFS to be inspired by great leadership in hopes that one day she will instill value among those around her. She holds a bachelors degree in East Asian Studies and Chinese from Lewis & Clark College, as well as a certificate in accounting from the University of Washington. Being bilingual, and coming from a culturally diverse background has taught her to explore outside the box in her thinking and to be diligent when determining aspirations and meeting goals. She is currently seeking employment and holds interest in coordinating projects, Human Resources and the health and well-being of company employees.

2012-Bio-Chad-Front 

 

Chad Conrow joined the GLFS after coming to the realization that really talented people can be much more successful with proper leadership. Chad has worked in the information systems industry for 14 years, delivering enterprise level email management systems, disaster recovery solutions, and emphasizing the power of teamwork to complete projects.

Diego Goding joined the GLFS to be a part of the cohort of students that are interested in learning about leadership from great leaders, experiential learning, and other leaders in the cohort and community. He majored in Management Information Systems at Washington State University. He has worked as Programmer Analysts to IT Project Manager at The Boeing Company, and is currently Business System Analysts at Accenture.

2012-Bio-Emily-Front 

 

Emily joined GLFS to work with people who inspire her. She is a ROTC cadet at Seattle University as well as member of the Army National Guard's Finance Corps. She became interested in the GLFS though her leadership experiences in the Army and in the MBA program. She holds a bachelors degrees in Secondary Education and Spanish Literature from the University of Idaho. She has worked in the Washington State public school system and also taught English in China for 2 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

Farani Aryono joined GLFS to further develop her leadership style and abilities as well as to learn from fellow students interested in leadership development. Farani is a Business Manager at The Spectator and she holds a BS in Applied Computational Mathematical Sciences and Economics from University of Washington.

2012 Bios - Jennifer  

 

Jennifer Eslava joined the GLFS to engage with others who share her enthusiasm for leadership. She hopes to learn more about the dynamics of effective leadership from not only the distinguished faculty, but also from her peers within the cohort and the diverse community leaders encountered during the Leadership Challenge. Jennifer holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with an Accounting emphasis from the University of Washington Tacoma and is a CPA. She currently works as the Controller for Proliance Surgeons. Her volunteer efforts are primarily focused in advocating on behalf of abused and/or neglected children through the King County Dependency CASA program and she also serves on the Board for the Friends of CASA.

2012-Bio-Jim-Front 

 

Jim Mesplie joined the GLFS program to find out what true great leadership was, and learn how to apply it in today’s business world in order to make an impact for future generations. He hopes to achieve such great success that he could one day donate his time and efforts to causes he cherishes the most. Jim works for Kenworth Trucks/PACCAR as a Cost Accountant and has been in accounting the last 6 years. Jim received his Bachelors in Accounting & Business Administration from Central Washington University. Jim will complete his MBA with a Leadership Formation Specialization from Seattle University by December 2012.

2012-Bio-Laine-Front 

 

Laine Cena joined GLFS to learn how to become a red-winged leader. She believes that businesses and people cannot reach their full potential without these leaders and would like to make an impact in other people's lives. She is very passionate about continued personal and professional growth. Currently, Laine works for Comcast as the Manager of Marketing Analytics in Lynnwood. She received her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from Seattle University. Her long-term goal is to make an impact in at least one person's life so they can do the same for someone else.

2012-Bio-Leilani-Front 

 

Leilani Maniulit joined the GLFS to explore the intricacies of team structure and to further understand how to be an effective leader. Her leadership style is relationship-oriented, with a passion for continually improving team motivation and communication. She is currently a Cost Accountant and Analyst for Hexcel, Kent. Leilani graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Accounting in 2007. In her limited free time, she loves devoting time to social causes, being active, and spending time with loved ones. Leilani's long-term goal is to leave the world a better place than she found it.

2012-Bio-Michael-Front 

 

Michael Wang joined GLFS for the opportunity to explore and engage in the inner workings of a successful team. His desire is to further develop and cultivate the core competencies of leading teams, setting direction, confident communication, and interpersonal awareness in this program. Michael is a Product Manager in the World Wide Licensing and Pricing organization at Microsoft. Michael holds a BS in Applied Computational Mathematical Sciences from the University of Washington. He is a classically trained pianist and is an active member in Toastmasters International.

Nick Ewing joined GLFS to further his understanding of leadership development and effective team dynamics. His passion for leading teams originally helped fuel his desire to pursue his MBA at Seattle University. He holds a bachelors degree in Business Administration from Western Washington University and has worked in retail management for the past 10 years. Nick is currently a Store Manager at Apple.

Nick Kelly joined the GLFS after being inspired by the Red Winged Leadership Award and the impact past cohorts have made in the local community. Nick is a sales and marketing professional and currently works for Seattle based WatchGuard Technologies. When Nick isn't in the office he enjoys studying management and hiking with his wife and two dogs throughout the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Nick received his BSBA in Marketing from Bowling Green State University in 2006.

Paul Sisk joined the GLFS to stretch himself as a student, a leader and a person. He believes that you must live leadership in order to learn it. He aspires to become part of the solution to the leadership void in the world, and hopes he can influence others to deeply study leadership and hone their own skills. Paul is currently a Technical Project Manager at Übermind, a local mobile agency in Seattle. He received his BS in Computer Science from Wright State University.

2012-Bio-Peggy-Front 

 

Peggy Clark joined the GLFS to prepare her to make a positive impact in the healthcare industry through a solid understanding of leadership principles so that she may apply those principles in her daily life. Peggy is a registered nurse and currently works for Triwest Healthcare Alliance as a Manager and Clinical Liaison Nurse. In this position, she is responsible for operations at a local Triwest Service Center where she and her team work with military and civilian beneficiaries and providers to coordinate healthcare for service members and their families. Peggy holds a BS in Nursing from the University of Washington.

Ryan joined GLFS to further his understanding of leadership development and different leadership styles. He believes that a better understanding of leadership will help him develop into a stronger leader. Ryan is an engineer with The Boeing Company and has undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Christian University.

2012-Bio-Tim-Front 

 

Tim Washington joined the GLFS program to gain insights about leadership development with a focus on strategic leadership for strategic execution. Tim wants to understand how leaders can successfully accomplish strategic goals. Presently, Tim is a Project Portfolio Analyst at Costco Wholesale. Previously, he worked at Boeing as a Portfolio Analyst and helped lead the enterprise community of practice for portfolio management. Tim holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington and lives in Bellevue with his wife and two young children.
